Dorothy Lee Newsome's Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Lee Newsome, 85, of Fredericksburg passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born on August 23, 1924 to the late Vivien and Rosie Cash in Tye River, Virginia.
Dorothy is retired from the U.S. Civil Service where she worked in the comptroller office at the Computer Systems Command. Other assignments while at the CSC where at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Earlier in life she worked as a hostess for Walt Disney at Disneyland. She also was employed during WW II working the Topedo factory in Alexandria, Virginia as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She loved flowers, cooking, parties, her children, grandchildren, jewelry, clothes, and loved to travel. Dorothy was full of life and “pep.”
She is survived by her husband, Cyrus Newsome; her son, Arthur Larry Wallace of Burnsville, NC; her step children, Janet Newsome of Maryland, David Newsome of Washington, Stephen Newsome of Maryland, and Linda Wills of Raleigh, NC. Additional survivors include two sisters, Virginia Morrill of Florida and Jean Summey of Missouri; four brothers, Bernard Cash of Florida, Charles Bryant of Temple Hill, MD, Wayne Bryant of Orange County, VA, and Marvin Bryant of South Carolina. Dorothy is also survived by numerous loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy’s family will receive friends on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels- Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at the Found and Sons Chapel on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Randy Newsome officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
