Dorothy Pearson Hamilton's Obituary
Dorothy Pearson Hamilton, affectionately known as Dorothy Mae, Dottie and Dot, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 in Culpeper.
She was a caring wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was born to Edward and Cora Pearson on December 18,1929 in Warrenton, VA. After graduating from Marshall High School, she attended Secretarial school in Charlottesville, VA. She began working for Risdon’s Paint and Hardware store as a bookkeeper. After marrying her loving husband, David Hamilton and moving to Fredericksburg, VA she began working as a secretary at the Sylvannia Plant, FMC.
David and Dorothy had two children, Lisa and Jan. She was a member of Berea Baptist Church where she was devoted to children, teaching both Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed being a homemaker, and working in her beautiful flower border and later working at the Fredericksburg Auto Auction. She was well traveled, taking camping trips across the country, and visiting Hawaii, Spain, Germany, Aruba and her favorite Costa Rica.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Lisa Rietdorf (Jud) of Petersburg, and Jan Pearce (David) of Culpeper; sister, Faye Morris of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Frederic Wiggins (Amber), Gates Alverson (Andrew), Paytes Pearce, and Caroline Pearce; four great-grandchildren, Brendan Wiggins, Cora Alverson, Rhys Alverson, and Ada Alverson; and numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; and six brothers.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 in Berea Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Culpeper for their love, kindness and care over the past year.
The family suggests donating to the Diabetes Foundation or the Lion’s Club (hearing) on her behalf.
