Dorothy Mae Groves' Obituary
Dorothy Mae Groves, 72, of Culpeper died unexpectedly January 16, 2014 at Jefferson Medical Center near Charles Town, West Virginia. Mrs. Groves was born on March 26, 1941 in Madison to the late James Jackson and Edna Finchan Jackson.
Dottie, along with her husband Dave, owned and operated the “Double D Restaurant” for over 25 years. She was an accomplished gardener and renowned cook. She was an active member of the Church on the Rise in Culpeper. Dottie also worked in the eldercare field, caring for those who couldn’t care for themselves until her final days.
She is survived by her daughter, Renee Costello and her husband, Kevin of Fairfax; one brother, James Jackson; grandchildren, Kate, Maeve, Ciaran Costello and Bradley and Marcus Nicholson; and one great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Wayland Groves; her son, Paul Nicholson; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Nicholson; three siblings, Bobby Jackson, Elmer Jackson and Nellie Durant; and several half brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Dottie’s life will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1 pm at the Church on the Rise with Pastor Baker Rigg officiating.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Church on the Rise, 1136 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
