Doreen McKenzie's Obituary
On Thursday, July 22nd, 2021, Doreen McKenzie, loving wife and mother, passed away at the age of 68. Doreen was born on November 21st, 1952 in Bayonne, NJ to John and Olga Tarne. She was an accomplished radiology technician and worked for several organizations. On March 5th, 1983 she married Mark McKenzie. They raised two children, Carrie and Greg, as well as several animals.
Doreen had several passions. She was a fabulous cook and spent many hours preparing food for all her friends and family. She was a gifted musician who enjoyed playing her guitar, ukulele, and singing in the Woodbridge Community Choir. After retiring, her love of nature and plants led her to volunteer at the National Arboretum. Her hard-work and dedication to this organization can still be seen today in the Boxwood section. Above all, she was a loving mother, girl-bebop, and partner, whose quick wit, jovial laugh, and caring nature will be missed.
Doreen was preceded in death by her father, John, and mother, Olga. She is survived by her husband Mark, her two children, Greg and Carrie, her three grandchildren, Alison, Lauren, and Kristin, her sister, Lydia and family, and her fur-baby Lucky.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 2, 2021 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, 10719 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
