Dora Marie Puller Starkes' Obituary
Dora Marie Puller Starkes, 82, of Culpeper, VA, died on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Culpeper Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 26, 1937 at Mitchells, VA, to the late James and Lula Mae Puller.
Mrs. Starkes was a member of St. Stephens Baptist Church and ushered for many years at Oak Grove Baptist Church. She loved her knick knacks, various sweat shirts for each season, her nail polish and matching jewelry. She made friends wherever she went and loved to make jokes. She also enjoyed spending time with her best friend, Sue Hunter.
Mrs. Starkes is survived by her five children, Roy “Chicken” Starkes, Carolyn Minor (Rocky), Ruth Thomas, James Starkes, and Lorraine Starkes; special grand daughter, Nicole Minor Melvin, and numerous other grandchildren and great grandchildren. Additional survivors include siblings, Helen Banks (Sidney), George Puller (Cindy), Charlie Puller, Jimmy Puller (Udonia), and Katherine Pollard.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Starkes, two daughters; Jean Banks, and Joyce Starkes (her Angel), five sisters; Mary Bailey, Norma Campbell, Carolyn Booker, Gertrude Puller, and Anna Mae Puller Morris, two brothers; Arthur Puller and William Puller, one son-in-law, William “Buck” Thomas, and one granddaughter; Bernadette Banks.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019 at 12:30 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Derrick J. Mathis, Sr. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E. Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA.
