Donald Duane Wilkes, age 92, of Culpeper, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2023. He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dar Read Obituary
I was so sad to learn of Don's passing. We first met Don in 1984 when he helped to broker the sale of a piece of property we owned in Lorton Va. From then on he was the "family" realtor. He was a gentleman and a scholar, quick with a joke and a smile. Don helped my family get through some of the most trying times over the 30 years we considered him a friend. Godspeed Don. Prayers for peace to the family.
My deepest condolences go out to the family of Don. I will speak for my father as well. My father Michael G. McGrady of Springfield, VA., knew Don very well for a number of years and worked with him in the Real Estate industry and always asked Don for his advice and expertise. My father is a retired Marine Major and he often joked about going back and forth with Don as an Army Lt Col. They were good friends and dad spoke very highly of Don. Don is buried in section 81 at Arlington National Cemetery, and my father and mother are both at Arlington National Cemetery in Court 7. They rest in eternal peace with our nations heroes and their families at our nations most hallowed grounds.
We were blessed to know Mr. Wilkes through his youngest daughter and her family. I love remembering him sitting at the kitchen table amidst the happy chaos of a birthday party, smiling as he watched his family, occasionally saying something quietly hilarious. But what has left a permanent impression on me is the love and devotion he inspired in his family, from his sweet youngest granddaughter to his unbelievably strong and devoted wife. The family culture of devotion, faithfulness and steadfast love is clearly a testament to the values Mr and Mrs Wilkes taught, and more importantly modeled. The unwavering love and constant care that Mrs. Wilkes demonstrated for Mr. Wilkes will forever be a picture for me of unconditional love. I am grateful to God that our family got know Mr. Wilkes and his precious family and rejoice that he is with his Heavenly Father.

Grandpa was such a special man in each of our lives. He always had time to smile and talk… the twinkle in his eyes was there till the end. His sense of humor is greatly missed. We’re grateful for the legacy he has left for us to stand upon!
