Donald Hurst's Obituary
Donald “Doc” Hurst, 85, of Culpeper died Monday, October 08, 2007 at his residence. He was born June 30, 1922 in Vienna, VA to the late Elmer Chinn Hurst and Gladys Dunn Hurst.
Doc was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F) for over 65 years. He loved his career as a Sergeant with Fairfax Police Department and served there for twenty six years with seventeen and a half of those years as an investigator. He was appointed four times as a Magistrate for Fairfax County. He was a charter member of the Fairfax Retired Police Association. Even after retirement he still took great pride in his affiliation with the Department. While committed to law enforcement he still took time to enjoy farming where he raised cattle and loved riding his tractor. Above all, the most important thing to Doc was family. He cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and each member of law enforcement he had the privilege of serving with.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Edna Mae Hurst, his three daughters, Janet L. Kilby and her husband, Richard of Reva, Joan E. Seested and her husband, William of Olney, MD, and Donna H. Frazier and her husband, Troy of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include eight grandchildren, Lorrie Kilby, Jason Kilby, Matthew Kilby, Lisa Groth, Christine Butschky, Bill Seested, Katie Frazier, Jacob Frazier, and four great grandchildren, Lorynn Kilby, Devyn Groth, Georgia Williams, and Nicholas Butschky.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 11, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with an Odd Fellow Service to begin at 6:30 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Jenkins and Mr. Ray Abell officiating.
Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Fairfax Police Department Honor Guard.
