Donald Krikor Haleblian's Obituary
Donald “Don” Krikor Haleblian, 82, died at his home, Tuesday, August 12, 2014, with his wife and daughter by his side. He went peacefully after a short bout with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Anna Maria Haleblian; his daughter, Doreen and her husband, Stephen Bowen along with his five grandchildren, Billy, Brent, Anthony, Mathew and Stephen; his son, Donald Haleblian and his wife, Sasha; and many, many close friends.
Born, August 19, 1931, Don was the youngest of five children, born to Garabed and Rose Haleblian, a resident of Flatbush Brooklyn NY. After graduating high school he was drafted in the Korean War, and proudly served as the United States Marine, in the 1st Tank BN.USMC. While stationed in North Korea and Japan, he served in two tours in Korea War (1951-1952).
While stationed in Paris, France working for N.A.T.O. and traveling back and forth from Naples Italy, he met his wife, Anna Maria Conte. Their breathtaking romance began instantly. He later moved to Naples to spend the rest of his life with Anna Maria, who he married a year later on March 4, 1967. He was transferred one last time to Fairfax VA, where he raised his family in a beautiful neighborhood, Whitson Ct. and made lifelong friends.
He loved fishing, especially shore fishing with his good friends; the ocean and being around his family. He truly loved to help out his friends and neighbors fixing anything they would ask for his help with. He had a deep love for his dogs, particularly boxers and rescued every one he ever owned. He cherished his poker nights with his buddies and was affectionately nicknamed “Don the Baptist”, because he was always spilling something at the table.
There are two things about Don his friends and family will remember: just how truly funny he was, and how much he enjoyed making people laugh. He could make anyone laugh and would “keep a room in stiches”, as he would say. What our family will remember most is how madly in love with his wife he was. Every day he would tell her how much he loved her. Up until his last breath, he called her his sweetie pie and told her how beautiful she was every day.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
