Donald Eugene Edison Haas' Obituary
Donald Eugene Edison Haas, 88 of Fredericksburg, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital.
Donald worked for the US Postal Service for 35 years, where he was involved with the space and acquisition of the downtown Fredericksburg Post Office. He served in the US Marine Corps for 12 years and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Donald enjoyed flying while in the service and he once flew Charles Lindbergh to Okinawa, Japan. He enjoyed playing cards and games with a houseful of family. He loved his slot machines, even though he was a Southern Baptist. He enjoyed spending time at the lake catching fish, and was the owner of Haas Hallmark.
A devoted husband to his wife, Melissa Irene Haas of 68 years, he is also survived by his loving children; Gaylord Haas and his wife, Karen, H. Chris Haas and his fiancee, Ann Reffner, and Lyle D. Haas; three grandchildren, Brett Haas, Brooks Haas and Marlene Farrell; six great-grandchildren, Faith Haas, Lucas Haas, Quentin Farrell, Alice Farrell, Braeden Haas and Vincent Haas.
Donald was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Haas and his granddaughter, Rebecca F. Haas.
A graveside service will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:00 am in Quantico National Cemetery.
