David Pierson Zier
David Pierson Zier, age 85, of Hagerstown, Maryland, formerly of Manassas, passed away on August 31, 2009 at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md.
Mr. Zier was born in Washington, D.C. on May 19, 1924. He was the son of the late Harry Franklin and Mary Katherine Quigley Zier. Mr. Zier was a United States Navy World War II veteran. He served from 1942 to 1948. He was the last known survivor of the U.S.S. Robalo Submarine. He retired as a guard from the Lorton Reformatory. He had worked for the Prince William County Sheriff’s office and as Clerk of the Court of Prince William County.
Mr. Zier was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. Zier.
He is survived by his children Teresa Black, David Zier and his wife, Chris of New York, Daniel Zier and his wife, Mary of Delaware and Peter Zier and his wife, Joyce of Manassas; other survivors include his grandchildren, Michael Brooks, Jennifer Leese, Jason Brooks, Shawn Patrick Zier, Ian Jon Paul Zier, Jacob Daniel Zier, Catherine Elizabeth Zier, Angel Kestner and Tara Dawn Short , Ashley Zier; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Leese, Cameron Leese, Jordan Leese, Tyler Kestner, Bailey Kestner, Makaela Kestner, Clay Shaw, Cody Shaw, Hanna Short, Micah Short, Emily Short, Carolyn Zier, Aidan Zier, Ryan Zier, Laci Zier, Landon Taylor, Karley Jo Zier and Keegan Zier; his brother, Frank Zier, of Indiana and his sister, Rita Carroll, of Florida.
David’s family will receive friends on Thursday, September 10, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Found and Sons Lee Funeral Chapel, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA 20109. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, Virginia .
