David Wesley Maxfield's Obituary
LTC (ret.) David Wesley Maxfield
David was born May 1, 1932 in Wichita, Kansas and died at home on April 26, 2013 at the age of 80. His parents were George G. Maxfield and Martha A. Maxfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda M. Carlozzi.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith Boswell Maxfield and their children: John D. Maxfield and his wife, Sandy Maxfield, Martha M. Turner and her husband, Richard Turner, George. G. Maxfield II and his wife, Laura Maxfield and James W. Maxfield and his wife, Kathleen S. Maxfield. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as four nieces and two nephews.
David graduated from the Military Dependents High School in Vienna, Austria and attended the University of Texas, majoring in civil engineering. He completed ROTC and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Ordnance Corps for twenty years, then after retirement from the Army, worked in Civil Service for eighteen years. During his Army career he was stationed in various stateside posts as well as Stuttgart, Germany; Maragheh, Iran; two years in Vietnam; and two years in Amman, Jordan.
During his life he was active as an adult leader in Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of St. Stephen’s and served as an usher and was on the vestry. In retirement he enjoyed traveling, camping, photography and being with his family. He was also a life member of Solomon Lodge in Stuttgart, Germany.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 1 pm at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with Father Michael Gray officiating.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper American Legion Post 330 and Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Stephen’s Restoration Fund, 115 N. East St., Culpeper, VA 22701 &/or Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington DC 20005.
