Hazel and David, Jr., This is Donna Reid Secrist, David's first cousin on his mother's side. We came to Virginia to escape a severely abusive stepfather/husband and lived with my Aunt Edna and Uncle John, David's parents. We were very close, Dorothy and David being my only cousins. Even after we moved away, Aunt Edna, Dorothy, and David came to visit us after Uncle John's death. I have many good memories of our childhood. David sold his "Grit" newspaper on the corner every Friday in Warrenton. David also loved music and we would all buy the Hit Parade song books and learn all the words to the songs and sing them. The last time I saw him was at my mother's funeral and then 3 weeks later at his sister Dorothy's (my mother's namesake) funeral. We all had a hard life, but had loving parents and lots of fun, too. My sister is also deceased so I am the last living family member from my mother's side of the family in this generation.
