David was a wonderful colleague and a generous soul. He made me feel welcome the moment I joined George Mason, and I valued his judgment and insight -- such a fantastic professional partner who cared so much for the progress and understanding of his students. He treated everyone with respect, and exhibited his values in all that he did. He hosted his students at Sharp Rock every year, which several have mentioned to me in learning of his passing. I can hear his chipper "Hello!" in my ear even now. Such a beautiful person, both professionally and personally. He will be missed!
I'm so sorry for the loss of my Uncle David. My heart goes out to Marilyn and all the family during this difficult time. Family was important to David. I have special memories from the many holidays our families spent together when I was growing up. (He made the most delicious turkey stuffing!) He had a way of making a holiday feel more fun and important. More wonderful memories were made later in life when he and Marilyn hosted my family at Sharp Rock Farms and Cape Cod. David was loved dearly and will be missed!
With much love,

I had the honor of having two sets of parents. One set (Carmen and David) in Florida and one set (Marilyn and David) in Virginia. I discovered that both of my Dads were born in 1938 and both of my Moms were born in 1940. Both sets took mighty good care of me. Both of my Dads passed this year within a few months of one another and I will miss them both. Thanks for being there when I needed you. All my love, Jen Layman.
