Daugherty Phipps' Obituary
Daugherty Lee Pappy Phipps, 80 of Alpine, CA passed away Friday, August 31, 2007 at his daughter Rebbecca's home. He was born in Checotah, Oklahoma April 26, 1927.
His family settled in Yuma, Arizona. He served in the U.S. Army with a tour in the Philippines. Later, he became a brick mason in San Diego, CA. He retired from Santa Ana Unified School District in June 1996 as a Masonry Inspector.
He loved his family and friends. He was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion located in Alpine, CA. One of his favorite hobbies was to watch John Wayne movies.
His is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Jacqueline L. Phipps; three children that were stillborn; his son, Steven Anthony Phipps; his parents, Paul and Mary Phipps, his mother and father-in-laws, Pop and Mabel Rohrer and Smitty and Theada Smith; his brothers, Raymond Phipps and David Phipps; his son-in-law, Darwin Bynacker and his niece, Cynthia Phipps.
He is survived by his children, two sons, Daugherty Phipps and his wife, Gail Ann, Glenn Phipps and his wife, Ruth-E; four daughters, Jacqueline Phipps and fiance, Chris, Rebbecca Bynacker, Nancy Phipps, and Ed, Jodi Phipps and Dave, two brothers, Gene Phipps and his wife, Donna, Donald Phipps and his wife, Glenda, his sister-in-law, Georgia Phipps and his brother-in-laws, Bill Smith, David Smith and his wife, Rita, Roy Rohrer and his wife, Mary and Michael Rohrer, two sister-in-laws, Virginia Romine and her husband, Dave, Grace Conut, 16 loving grandchildren, Loyd, Gary, Jacky, Chuck, Steven, Adam, Regina, Michelle, JoLanda, Anna, Patrick, Joey, Justine, Jerry, Daugherty, Catarina and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the American Legion in Alpine, CA. Interment will be held at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
