Daniel Wayne Mudd's Obituary
The heart of our family, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Daniel (Danny) Wayne Mudd, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 12, 2023. His wife, Susan, was by his side as she has been for 53 years. Danny and Susan wed in July of 1969, and together, they proudly raised four children: Wayne (Kim) Mudd, Tina (Matt) Nichols, Stacy (David) Hill, and Danielle (Ralph) Duggins. His family: his wife and his children were his greatest love.
To this love, they were blessed with their grandchildren & great-grandchildren; Ed Mudd with Bailey & Emma, Andrew Mudd with Skylar, Jarrett Heflin, Ashley Fines (Jason) with Delaney & Owen, Codey Curtis (Colleen), Hunter Ford (Emma), Meagan Thomas (Hunter) with Colton, Courtney Beckley (Ben) with Paislee, Bradley Duggins, Trinity Beckley, Grayson Beckley.
He was born to Edward and Cosbie Mudd, in Fairfax, Virginia on October 25, 1950. He was the baby brother of six siblings, preceded in death by Mildred, Elsie, and Aubrey; and is now survived by; Richard (Tobbie) Mudd, Frances (Billy) Rust, and Nellie (Harold) Whisenhunt.
He leaves behind a host of cousins who adored him, nieces & nephews who loved their Uncle Danny dearly, and in-laws who cared for him as their brother. His neighbors, his longtime friends, their children, and even their grandchildren brought immense joy to Danny's life.
He could love hard and never met a stranger. He was a sweet, compassionate person. He would extend his hand to you always. His kindness was genuine, and his heart always welcomed you right in. He loved to make others laugh, sometimes until they cried. If you needed him, he was always there. He usually arrived late because he always took shortcuts through the long scenic routes in all his travels. He enjoyed the simple things in life; a walk to the mailbox, tinkering in his garage, feeding the birds, and mastering jigsaw puzzles. He never missed an opportunity to greet a driver passing by his home with a friendly wave. He loved camping with his family and friends. Pitching horseshoes was his preferred backyard sport. He loved the Washington Redskins, especially when they beat the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed watching game shows, but we all know that The Andy Griffith Show was his all-time favorite. With his gifted hands, he was a real fixer upper. He could create "something out of nothing" and it was always art to his family. He was a diehard GMC & Chevy fan. His favorite music was classic country, and he was usually the first one on the dance floor.
His strength and resilience were his driving force to beat cancer, celebrate 26 years of sobriety and overcome years of health challenges. He lived his life with a smile even on the hard days. He was a perfectly imperfect man who loved out loud.
We will wholeheartedly miss his silly jokes and his hugs. Most of all, we will miss his presence in our lives. We find comfort in knowing that his love will continue to grow in the hearts of the lives that he touched. We know his smile will light up the skies. We know he is at peace.
There will be a private ceremony held for immediate family.
We ask friends and family to join in his memory for a celebration of life. The celebration will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, 12:00 - 3:00 pm at the Wilderness Presidential Resort Clubhouse, 9220 Plank Rd, Spotsylvania , VA 22553.
