Dan Richard Smith's Obituary
Dan Richard Smith, of Amissville, departed this life peacefully on August 5, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 17, 1944, in Front Royal, VA, Dan lived a full and adventurous life, marked by service, dedication, and an unyielding spirit of exploration.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Russell Clarence Smith; mother, Florene Evelyn Dodson; brother, David Russell Smith; and the love of his life, Mildred Mae “Millie” Smith.
Dan proudly served his country as an Army soldier, showcasing his dedication and courage. After his military career, he transitioned into a career as a truck driver, traversing the roads of America with a spirit of freedom and adventure.
Dan’s love for the open road mirrored his passion for exploring new places and experiencing the world. He had a deep affection for Westerns, often spending his quiet moments enjoying classic tales of the Old West. His adventurous spirit was reflected in his love for traveling and his fondness for spirited conversations.
A devoted father and grandfather, Dan’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He leaves behind his loving daughter, LaDeana Smith and husband, Sebastian Oveysi; his beloved grandchildren, Alyssa Ortiz-Smith, Brishen Rojas-Smith (LyTesha Rojas), Savion Rojas-Smith, and Sierra Rojas-Smith; and his great-granddaughter, Athena Rojas. He is also survived by his cherished, sister, Juanita Smith; and one nephew, David Smith.
Dan was known for his warm smile, captivating storytelling, and the joy he found in family gatherings. Dan’s legacy is one of strength, love, and unwavering dedication to those he cared about. He will be remembered for his warm presence, sense of humor, and the countless stories he shared with family and friends. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A private service will be held in his honor, where family and close friends will gather to celebrate his life and cherish the moments they shared. The viewing will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Travis Jenkins officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Brishen Rojas, Savion Rojas, Connor Smith, Miguel Rojas, Jay Haines and Mark Haines. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Dodson, Rick Haines and Lee Haines.
Dan Richard Smith will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May he rest in peace.
