Cpl. Adam Fargo

Corporal Adam Fargo, United States Army, 22, of Ruckersville was killed in the line of duty serving his country in Iraq on Saturday, July 22, 2006. He was born on February 28, 1984 in Frankfort, Germany to Douglas Allen Fargo and Elizabeth Stecher Fargo. Cpl. Fargo graduated from William Monroe High School in Greene County in 2002. He was a four year starter on the high school soccer team and also played for SOCA (Soccer Organization of Charlottesville and Albemarle). After graduating he attended George Mason University and Piedmont Community College. His military career began with basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon completion of basic training he was transferred to Fort Sam Houston, Texas where he took AIT and was awarded the MOS of medical specialists and was also awarded National EMT certification. He was then assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky and attended Air Assault School and was awarded Air Assault Wings. He was then deployed to Iraq with HHC 4th BTB 506 RCT 101st Airborne Division. Known to most as Doc. Fargo for his medical skills, he also volunteered with one of the best engineering units assisting in detonating IED (Improvised Explosive Devises, also known as roadside bombs) and often volunteered to drive during their most extreme missions. Most importantly Cpl. Fargo was awarded the Combat Medical Badge for his bravery in assisting two fellow soldiers simultaneously under combat. This is a very prestigious award given only to those who are most deserving. He was the only soldier in his unit to obtain such an honorable decoration. Cpl. Fargo was a dedicated, model soldier who was killed in action during Operation Enduring Freedom. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Jason Fargo of Atlanta, GA., his sister, Sarah Fargo of Ruckersville, paternal grandfather, Douglas C. Fargo of Charles Town, WV., and maternal grandparents, Lt. Col. (Ret) William F. Stecher and Audrey Stecher of Fredericksburg. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marie Laura Mae Fargo. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 10 a.m. at William Monroe High School. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors to be provided.
