Clyde Otto Collins' Obituary
Clyde O. Collins, 85, of Spotsylvania County, was reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Florence, on Monday, July 8, 2019.
Clyde was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on November 24, 1933 to William and Ora Collins. He met his wife, Florence in 1953 and after a brief courtship, they were married on December 24, 1953. They were happily married for 44 years until her passing in 1997. Clyde was a hard worker. He had a long career as a heavy equipment operator for several construction companies and Virginia American Water of Alexandria. Clyde retired after many years with Virginia American Water and moved to Spotsylvania to be closer to his family. He loved to be outside, whether it was working in his garden or tinkering with anything mechanical.
Clyde was a family man who was dedicated to the well-being and happiness of those around him. He was quick to help anyone in need, especially his family and loved ones. Clyde was always calm under pressure, and during tough times, his family looked to him for that calming presence, which he was always there to give.
He is survived by his two sons, Dale Collins, and his wife, Kathie, of Nokesville, and Jason Collins, and his wife, Cheryl, of Spotsylvania; a sister, Mary Ellen Strickland, and her husband, Mike, of Kings Mountain, NC; his granddogs, Gideon, Sarah, Olivia, and Jax; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving extended family.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence; and five siblings, Junior Collins, S.A. Collins, Gene Collins, Bob Collins, and Ruth Biddix.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 in the funeral home chapel. A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2019 in Columbia Gardens in Arlington.
