Clinton George Conover Jr.'s Obituary
It is with broken hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Clinton G. Conover, Jr., age 78 of Culpeper, Virginia. He was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, March 7, 2025.
Clint was born on June 26, 1946, to the late Clinton G. and Arlene Conover in St. Louis, MO. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Woodward Conover. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Clinton G. Conover, III (Christina) of Webster, TX; his daughter, Dorenda D. Pullen (Charles) of Culpeper, VA; his grandchildren, Tristin Conover, Ashlynn Pullen, and Alexis Pendleton (Stephen). Clint is also survived by his sister, Karen Kane (David) of Davis, CA, and his two nephews, Ben and Alex.
He will also be remembered by his wonderful family, which includes Randy and Donna Sheads, Jackie and Diane Myers, John H. Woodward, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He attended grade school in California, relocated to Iowa for his high school years, and then attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA, where he studied Business Administration.
Clint started his career in Sales with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. While working for NW Bell, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, during the Vietnam War. After his service to his country, he returned to Des Moines but was soon hired by Matanuska Telephone Company in Palmer, AK, where he was the Branch Manager of the company in Eagle River, AK, until he was promoted to Executive Director of MTA. During that time, he met his wife, Darlene who also was employed at MTA. They were married on March 4, 1983, and just celebrated their beautiful life together two days before his death.
In 1986, Clint moved to New Jersey with Darlene to work as Director for the National Exchange Carrier Association. He directed the FCC Universal program that regulated the Nations FCC Regulatory System as the liaison to MTA in Alaska. Clint finished his career in Wapakoneta, OH, as Vice President of Telephone Service Company. He and Darlene then returned to Virginia, where she was originally from.
Clint was active in the communities he lived in and had served with organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, The Knights of Columbus, Elks, Moose, and Eagles. His hobbies included building model train layouts, restoring antique radios (of which he had hundreds of each), reading, and traveling. Clint would travel to the “ends of the earth” for Darlene. He had a selfless, gentle, genuine demeanor and the ability to make you laugh with his quirky remarks.
