We will miss Clifford Mummau, who was our longtime neighbor in Clifford Virginia. He cut our hay after his Dad, Mark was no longer able to do so, and we most often met to talk with him in a restaurant after he had finished a day of delivering or cutting hay, or taking an Uber client to the airport. We of course would be just finishing a rehearsal or a show and grabbing a lte supper ourselves.

We last saw Clifford when he dropped by to pick up some farm machinery that he had parked on our land temporarily before his last trip to the Philippines. He talked to us about his girl friend in the Philippines, Nenita Obispo Gob, and told us of her hair salon business. We are happy they were able to buy their retirement home together while Clifford was in the Philippines. We are sorry for Nenita Obispo Gob's loss of Clifford, and we send condolences to his family. We had had high hopes for his happiness in retirement.

I was and still am heartbroken this morning after finding out about Clifford. He was one of the first people to welcome us when we bought our farm just down the road from his years ago. We were sad last spring when he told us it would be his last year cutting our hay fields yet delighted he would be able to enjoy his life of retirement. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone if he was able. He helped us with farm tasks countless times over the years and never asked for anything in return. Some evenings we would come home to find him sitting in the driveway and it was always the excitement of wondering what kind of story he had to share or what “gift” had he found to bring to us or the kids. Clifford would spoil our kids by bringing goodies every now and then, and one Halloween he brought them an entire trash bag full of candy. He is affectionately known by our youngest as “Farmer Clifford”. On nights when cutting hay, we always made certain to include him in our supper plans and he’d always rave about getting the best meals when at our place. And he loved homegrown cherry tomatoes! I always had my husband take containers of them to him in the fields. He said they were one of his favorite things to snack on while on the tractor. When I look around our farm Clifford may no longer be here but he is everywhere. He is a big part of this place and we are grateful for the knowledge he passed on to us as far as raising pigs, rabbits, chickens, etc. If we ever had a farming question, we knew Clifford would most likely have the answer. I could go on and on about my fond memories of this kind soul who will so dearly be missed. These photos are of our youngest a few years ago in the garden watching his Farmer Clifford cut hay.
My prayers go out to Clifford’s family, friends, and loved ones.

I am so saddened to hear of Clifford's passing! He was truly a wonderful guy!
I met Clifford right after we bought our farm, and he cut our hay and helped out with many other projects. We truly thought of him as family and had many good times together. I always enjoyed getting his memory pictures in a text message, anytime they pooped up on his phone if it was sonthing he was working on at our place, or a random text from the phillipines to let me know how nice the weather was, while we were buried in snow and ice. He will surely be missed by many!
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this time of loss!

My Dearest Clifford,
Thank you for everything—
for your unconditional love, for your deep respect, and for the countless ways you made me happy every single day. Every time you called, whether day or night, you gave me your time and your heart. No matter how tired you were, you would still wake up just to hear my voice. You never grew weary of loving me.
Even with the thousands of miles between us, you always found your way back to me. And now I understand… you must have grown tired. Yet even then, you never stopped guiding me. Your words, your reminders, your advice—they reached deep into my heart and mind. You didn’t stop until you fulfilled what you felt was your mission for me.
We had so many dreams together here in the Philippines. You even bought our retirement home, a place where we were supposed to begin a new chapter of our lives. We were so happy. Never, not even for a moment, did it cross my mind that you would leave so soon.
I wanted to stop you from going back, but I couldn’t. You told me you still had something important to do… I didn’t know that it meant you were leaving for good, with no coming back. I wasn’t prepared for that kind of goodbye. The pain is beyond words, but I know I have to accept it.
Lord, thank You for the 11 beautiful years You lent Clifford to me. He was so kind, so loving—he did nothing but love me and make me happy. Even if our plans were left unfinished, I am forever grateful for every moment we shared, even through the distance. Before You, I return him with an open heart. Please guide him into Your kingdom, for his heart was pure and full of love. Thank You, Lord.
I love you so much, Clifford.

I will always remember Clifford as a kind and friendly person! I really do wish I could have known him more, but I haven't seen him for over 25 years. Wish he could have lived in a lot longer life! Truly do love his families as they are very kind and caring people! So sorry to hear about his passing as he was so young to be departed. His families will be in my daily prayers. I will always remember Clifford as a kind and friendly gentleman. I wish I could get to know him a lot more, but I haven't seen him for nearly 25 years. I really do love his families as they are so kind and caring people! I am so sorry to hear about his passing even though he could have lived in a lot longer life!
