Claude "Tom" Thomas Johnson's Obituary
Claude Thomas “Tom” Johnson, 82, of Culpeper, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Poet’s Walk in Warrenton, VA. He was born July 2, 1943, to the late Claude William and Pansy Bluebell Johnson in Charleston, WV.
Tom, who proudly served in the United States Air Force, will be remembered for the many joys that colored his life. He loved to bowl whenever he was able, a pastime he continued with enthusiasm until the arrival of COVID. A devoted sports fan, he rarely missed a chance to watch the Nationals play or to enjoy a good football game. His warmth, loyalty, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tom is survived by his children, Duane Allen “Buddy” Young (Cheryl), Donald Ray Young (Sherry), Yvette Renee Patton (Tim), Ronald Lee Young (Wendy), Richard Burke Young (Melanie), and Susan Marie Johnson McKenzie; grandchildren, Don Young, T.J. Patton (Joann), Jason Patton (Anna), Sabrina Cook (Matt), Thomas Dean Young (Aishjah), Micah Young (Brooklyn), Richard Young, Nathan Young, Sara McKenzie, and Sydney McKenzie; great-granddaughter, Iverley Lou Temple; and a host of additional family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Johnson.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, VA, with Pastor Ronald Lee Young officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Rt. 522, Culpeper, VA, with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 2524.
Pallbearers serving the family will be his grandsons, Don Young, T.J. Patton, Jason Patton, Richard Young, Nathan Young, Thomas Dean Young, and Micah Young.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's name to Alum Spring Baptist Church, 11058 Dutch Hollow Road, Culpeper, VA 22701.
