Claude C. "Carl" Leighty's Obituary
Claude C. “Carl” Leighty, age 97, died Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born on October 11, 1917 in Illinois.
Carl was a farmer and laborer until July 1941, when he enlisted in the US Army as a private. He and his wife Eileen were married on October 24, 1942 when he was in pilot training.
During WWII he was a B-29 pilot in India and the Mariana Islands and remained in the US Air Force until his retirement in 1973. After retirement, he and his wife resided in Flint Hill, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Leighty; daughter, Carolyn Dowdy and her husband, Jay; grandson, Ethan Bussey and his wife, Amy; and his great grandson, Liam Bussey.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 1 pm at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
