Clarence H. Johnson, Jr.'s Obituary
Clarence H. Johnson, Jr. of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away peacefully at UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center surrounded by family on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the age of 74. Clarence, Jr. is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence H. Sr., and Martha Blanche Johnson; one brother, Jonathan Johnson, and one granddaughter.
Clarence was born and raised in Culpeper, Virginia on July 1, 1950. He attended grammar school at Norman School House for seven years and then enlisted in the USMC on June 12, 1969, in Richmond, VA. He entered as Private (E-1). His last duty assignment and major command was MCAD, Parris Island, S.C. He was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal. He returned home and moved to Arlington VA and drove dump trucks for JP Brent for eight years, then got a job operating heavy equipment in Chantilly, VA, for BA Forester.
Clarence, affectionally known as Pee Wee, had a fun-loving personality that certainly was not limited to his love for ladies, fast cars, and the New York Giants football team. He spent his last years in the comfort of his home enjoying his family and grandkids and watching his beloved western shows. He lived his life to the fullest and tackled any challenges life put in front of him.
Survivors include his children, Ira Johnson, Nona Johnson, Marcus Richards, Calvin Richards, Michael J. Richards, Clarence Richards, and Elliot Richards; fifteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Theodore Johnson, James O. Johnson, and his wife, Gloria, of Culpeper VA., and Christopher L. Johnson of Philadelphia, PA; four sisters, Martha Lorraine Sprangle of Philadelphia, PA, Gwen Caston, and her husband, Willie, of LA, Loretta Jenkins, and Melissa Spillman, and her husband, Matthew (Ronnie), all of Culpeper, VA; and nieces and nephews, Tony, Christian, Jeremy, James, Jerome, Yvette, Dara, Wendy, Anitra, Candy, Gwen, Julietta, Sabrina, Rosa, and Julian.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 E Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA. with Rev. Ludwell Brown officiating.
