Clara Josephine Griffin's Obituary
Clara Josephine Griffin, 88, of Rixeyville died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at her niece’s residence. She was born December 18, 1919 in Culpeper to the late Hugh F. Compton and Josie A. Yancey Compton.
Mrs. Griffin was a member of Alum Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers and cooking.
She is survived by her brother, Lewis Compton, Sr. of Rixeyville, and her sister, Evelyn Reigle of Washington, D.C. She lived with her niece Josie Woodward and her husband, Jimmie, Sr. in Rixeyville, and other close family members included, Sylvia and Dale Yancey, Sr. and their children, Dale Jr., Brittany, and Daniel Yancey (Doodle Bug as she called him), and Jimmie and Shelly Woodward Jr. and their children, Chelsey and Kelsey Woodward.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wallace Smith, second husband, William Griffin, son, Otis Thomas Smith, and three brothers, Raymond, Hugh and Lawrence Compton.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Preacher Charles Shifflett officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be, Dale Yancey, Sr., Jimmie Woodward, Jr., Lewis Compton, Jr., Ben Compton, Billy Yancey and Jason Stanley.
