Vernon Kurz
Dear Bernice & family, I wish to express my sincere sympathy in your loss of Duffy! At this time it is difficult to find words that I could offer some comfort to all of you in your sorrow. But let me try to briefly explain how I feel as a Falmouth kid growing up a bit older than my friend Duffy. During the 1040's I new Duffy plus his wonderful parents - Charlie & Minerva - who set the standard in which Duffy could not fail to be the person he turned out to be. I have read all the great comments about Duffy & every Falmouth kid of that period would not be surprised because he displayed all those traits at a very young age.
For example, the Falmouth boys loved to play all types of sports including street touch football on Butler Rd. & at little Falmouth school grounds - Duffy at the age of 10,11,12 would show up & compete with kids 5 years older - so every Falmouth boy of my era predicted he would be a great multi-sport star as a teenager!
In addition, he grew up attending Falmouth Baptist at a early age. I was a member of the same SS class as he in our teens. One more memory of many as kids - all of us Falmouth boys grew up in various swimming/fishing spots in the "River" as we called it. I recall many great times at "5 foot" when both Duffy with his Dad-Charlie- at that location.
His Dad was a great inspiration for us all because he was a very fast swimmer. As i thank about it I am sure Duffy took all of this early experience in to make him the husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend & all around person that he was.
I will end my wordy tribute to Duffy by saying I wish all of Duffys family the best & I wish I could have been around the area to have known all of you. Sincerely, Vernon Kurz
