Charles Rossman Rainey Jr.'s Obituary
Charles Rossman Rainey, Jr., 90, of Colonial Beach, Virginia, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 16, 2017.
Charles was born in Huntington, West Virginia, to Charles Rossman Rainey and Lizette Humphries on February 26, 1927. He attended Randolph Macon Military Academy in Front Royal, was a Capitol Page during his youth, and graduated from Cardoza High School in the District of Columbia.
As his first career choice, Charles accepted the duties of an Arlington County police officer. With a career change to the Federal Government, he became Foreman of the Rayburn House Office Building Garage under the Architect of the Capitol and retired after 31 years of service.
Charles loved to travel and especially enjoyed his trips abroad. Being reared in Miami, Florida, he became a huge fan of the Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins. Other interests of his during his lifetime were stamp and coin collecting and keeping in contact with lifelong friends. In addition to his hobbies, Charles enjoyed playing card games with family and friends. A late blooming hobby was his passion for collecting miniature diecast trucks and automobiles.
Charles is survived by his son, Charles (Nora) of Vienna, and their three children, Chaz, Katie Sellers and Amanda; his daughter, Cheryl L. Taylor (Dennis) of Colonial Beach, and their two sons, David and Steven, and Cheryl’s son, John Burrell; his daughter, Karen R. Blanchard (Skip) of Virginia Beach, and their four children, Brooke, Laura, Trey and Bryan. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Kristina Burrell, and his dear friend, Leonard Reedy.
A special thank you from his family goes out to his two loving caregivers, Patricia West and her twin sister, Melisha Bland, for all of the care and support they have provided him and the family prior to his passing.
Charles’ family will have a celebration of his life at a later date. Please contact the funeral home for additional information. Charles’ memory will remain in the hearts of all his family and friends forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in his name to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad as a thank you for the many times they came to provide medical attention and support during his difficult times.
