Charles Joseph Guiffre's Obituary
Charles Joseph Guiffre, 90, of Manassas, VA, formerly of Tupper Lake, NY went to the Lord on June 9, 2012 at the home of his daughter, Laura Guiffre-Stanley of Culpeper, VA. He was under the care of his family and Hospice of the Rapidan. Born on December 24, 1921 in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph Guiffre and Madeline LaBanco.
He married Ethel M. Clement on August 30, 1945 in Tupper Lake, NY where they lived until 1987 and raised 12 children. Mr. and Mrs. Guiffre relocated to Manassas, VA in 1987 and resided on Victoria Street for over 23 years. They have resided with his daughter Laura and her husband Bill Stanley for the last 5 years.
Mr. Guiffre was a veteran of the WWII era in the US Army. After his stint in the Army, Mr. Guiffre worked at the VA Hospital in Tupper Lake and stayed on with the State of New York when the VA hospital was converted into a State Development Center. He retired from the State of New York after more than 35 years of service. He then worked at the local McDonald’s in Tupper Lake for several years prior to relocating to Manassas, VA. He was an avid jogger and could be seen by many of the Village of Tupper Lake running the four mile square. He was also an avid fan of the outdoors and took his family up Mount Morris and Mount Arab on many occasions.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel to whom he was married to for 67 years. He is also survived by several of his children: Gary Guiffre, Donna Nelson of Bealeton, VA, Priscella Larabie of Manassas, VA, Paula Clark of Dumfries, VA, Laura Guiffre-Stanley of Culpeper, VA, Toni Guiffre of Manassas, VA, Paul Guiffre of Tucson, AZ, and Carla Guiffre of Front Royal, VA, 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Starr Gray, and two of his sons, Gregg Guiffre and Mark Guiffre.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at 10 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Father Murphy officiating.
He will be transported to Tupper Lake, NY for burial with interment at the family plot at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.
Services in Tupper Lake will be held on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11 am at Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave, Tupper Lake, NY 12986. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery.
