Charles G Coble, Jr.'s Obituary
Charles G. Coble, Jr. of Orlean, Virginia, passed away at his home on October 7, 2024, on his 75th birthday. The October 7th date highlights an annual day of remembrance in the Catholic Church, the Feast of the Holy Rosary. Charlie had a special devotion to praying the rosary as an act of intercession for family, friends, and the state of the world.
Charlie was born in Nuremberg, Germany to the late Charlie Coble, Sr. and Barbara S. Coble who had remained in West Germany after serving in the U.S. Military and Red Cross during WWII. Upon returning to the States, the family settled in North Carolina where Charlie grew up and eventually graduated from High Point College. Without hesitation, he immediately enlisted in the United States Army which he referred to as an “excellent and enjoyable opportunity”. During his enlistment, he served in the JAG office in Hanau, Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1979.
In his vocation as husband, father, and provider, Charlie worked as a special agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in Norfolk, VA., Raleigh, N.C., and Washington, DC. He retired from federal government service from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, where he served as a senior special agent assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation – National Joint Terrorism Task Force. He was known to his colleagues as a man with a strong work ethic and integrity.
Charlie’s great interest in NASCAR was born from his rural North Carolina roots and in shared racing fan experiences with his beloved father. In his later years his appreciation for classic British cars and vintage automobiles took him to many local and exclusive car shows where he enjoyed conversing with other car enthusiasts.
Although Charlie received the gift of Baptism into the Christian faith as a teenager, he converted to the Catholic Church in 1993, where he steadfastly grew in his faith toward Christ and exercised good works out of love for his glorious Lord and Savior. A longtime member of Saint Peter Catholic Church in Washington, Virginia, Charlie lived and shared his growing faith. He guided other men in their walks in faith, continually ministering boldly yet gently to others even during his long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Charlie is survived by his dedicated wife, Danuta L. Coble; daughter Sarah L. Coble and her husband Jeff Whitehurst, and granddaughter Norah Whitehurst; and daughter Olivia R. Swett and her husband Zachary Swett.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on, Wednesday, October 16 at 12:30 p.m., at St. Peter Parish in Washington, VA followed by the Rite of Committal. We give praise and thanks to God for Christ's victory over sin and death and seek strength in the proclamation of the Paschal Mystery. A reception will follow at Rappahannock Cellars Winery in Hume. All are welcome.
An online guestbook and tribute wall are available at www.foundandsons.com
