Cecil Allen "Buck" Harris' Obituary
Cecil “Buck” Allen Harris, 87, of Culpeper died peacefully while at UVA Culpeper Hospital on Saturday, October 3, 2015, with his wife by his side holding his hand. Mr. Harris was born in Nelson County, Virginia on March 18, 1928 to the late Allen Forrest Harris and the late Zora P. Mawyer Harris.
Cecil, commonly known as “Buck” was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Upon being honorably discharged he was a certified welder for Fairfax County. Buck was a lifetime member of both the Culpeper American Legion Post 330 and the Culpeper VFW Post 2524. He served on the American Legion Honor Guard and held the position of Sgt. at Arms until his health prevented his attendance.
Buck is survived by his wife, Carrie Harris; his four siblings and their spouses; Herbert E. Harris and his wife Margie of Goochland, VA., Mildred L. Harris, Dorothy M. Harris and her husband Arthur, and Ray H. Harris all of Faber, VA; a very special niece, Debra L. Harris; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Buck is preceded in death by his stepson, whom he loved as his own, Fred Jenkins, Jr.; four brothers; James O. Harris, Forrest W. Harris, Clifford F. Harris and Edward L. Harris; and one sister, Gladys H. Shaver.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, with Pastor Russell W. Biber and Pastor Sandy Martin officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by Culpeper VFW Post 2524.
