Cecil Burke Baldwin's Obituary
Cecil Burke Baldwin, 95, of Sperryville, VA, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Skyview Springs Rehab and Nursing. She was born April 29, 1929, to the late Gabe and Florence Burke in Washington, VA.
Cecil owned with her husband the DMV office in Sperryville, VA where she worked as a DMV agent. Together they also owned and operated Baldwin West End Shell on Main Street in Sperryville, which they handed the business to their son, Anthony Baldwin. She then went to work for Skyland for 21 years. Cecil was also a proud Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad member where she volunteered as an EMT for 22 years.
Cecil is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Baldwin Reeve; son, Anthony R. Baldwin (Patty); grandchildren, Karen Reeve Dobson, Thomas Richard Baldwin III, Kenneth Baldwin, Jason Baldwin, and Samantha Baldwin; 13 great-grandchildren, two great, great-grandchildren; brothers, William Burke of Centerville, Rannie Burke (Shirley) of Manassas, and Paul Burke of Sperryville; sister, Janet Alther (Roy) of Sperryville; and a host of extended family, friends and the caring staff at Skyview Springs Rehab and Nursing.
In addition to her parents, Cecil is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Richard Baldwin, Sr.; sons, Thomas Richard Baldwin, Jr., and Danny Ray Baldwin; brothers, Moses Burke, Charles Burke, and Davis Burke; and sisters Helen Smoot, Violet Baldwin, Mary Owens, and Doris Payne.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 12 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Rev. Ronnie Poe officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Washington Masonic Cemetery, 19 Fodderstack Road, Washington, VA.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Winston Baldwin, Tony Wayland, Ricky Lillard, Bill Payne, Richard Compton, and Donald Beahm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial contributions to be made to Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box 233, Sperryville, VA 22740 or to Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad at P.O. Box 178, Sperryville, VA 22740.
