Carrol "Joyce" McConnell's Obituary
Carrol Joyce McConnell, 88, of Mesa, Arizona died Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Arbor Rose Senior Care in Mesa, AZ. She was born December 3, 1931 in Alameda, CA to the late Richard and Hazel Carrington.
Joyce will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Some of her accomplishments included being a kindergarten teacher, Christian Evangelist, Christian Missionary, Journalist, an Author of numerous feature articles for the Oregonian newspaper along with other publications, and also authored the book, God of Surprises. She also volunteered as a counselor and supported the Crisis Pregnancy Center and had served as the Secretary for Pilot’s for Christ International. Joyce was a faithful prayer warrior.
She is survived by her children, Larry “Michael” McConnell (Rebekah), Kelly J. McConnell (Deborah), LTC Richard A. McConnell (Rose), and Mary C. Fanz (Scott); grandchildren, Gretchen Callan (Todd), Tanner McConnell, Makenzy Byrum (Don), Brittany McConnell, Josiah McConnell, Sarah Grace McConnell, Benjamin McConnell, Sean McConnell, Meghan McConnell, James McConnell (Lisa), Arthur McConnell, Dietrich Fanz, Jesse Fanz, Isabella Fanz, and Eva Fanz. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kimberly McConnell.
In addition to her parents and husband, LTC H. James McConnell, she is preceded in death by her son, LTC Stephen D. McConnell; grandson, Nathan Fanz; and her siblings, COL Richard Thompson Carrington, Jr. (Jewel), Virginia Unkeles (Gerry), and Cal Carrington (Carole).
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 12 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Due to COVD-19 mandates, masks are required in our building.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joyce's name to The Pregnancy Center of Central VA, 420 Sunset Lane, Culpeper, VA 22701.
Interment will follow at Culpeper National Cemetery.
