Carleton Smith Settle's Obituary
Carlton “Coonie” Smith Settle, 92, of Culpeper died Thursday, January 1, 2009 at his residence. He was born March 12, 1916 in Viewtown, VA.
Mr. Settle was a veteran of the United States Army serving in North Africa and Southern France during World War II and later became a general contractor in the Culpeper area for over 25 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Phoenix Lodge No. 59 for 61 years. He enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and collecting coins.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Josephine “Josie” Somers Settle, two stepdaughters, Thelma Reidy, Mozelia Carrol, two stepsons, Doug and Bobby Barron, grandchildren, Perry Jones, Brenda Brown, and Marenda Kay Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rena Katherine Settle, and his seven siblings.
