Carlene Satcher Moberley's Obituary
Carlene Satcher Moberley, 86, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026.
Born in Columbus, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late James Carl Satcher and Ethel Satcher Chancellor.
Carlene devoted her life to her family as a loving homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved and created a home filled with warmth, kindness, and lasting memories.
Above all else was her strong, unwavering Christian faith, which was the foundation of her life. She faithfully passed that legacy on to her children, grandchildren, and generations to come. As the devoted wife of a military serviceman for 23 years, she gracefully embraced the many moves and challenges that came with military life while creating a home centered on Christ. She took her children to church, taught them to pray, encouraged them to study God's Word, and demonstrated what it meant to live a life of faith and love. Her influence shaped not only her children but also her grandchildren, instilling in each of them the values of strong faith, godly character, and integrity. The spiritual legacy she leaves behind will continue to bless her family for generations. Her unwavering love, gentle spirit, and quiet strength will be cherished by all who knew her.
Carlene and her family moved to Culpeper, VA, in 1979, where she founded the Culpeper Chapter of MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving. She was an avid reader and greatly enjoyed frequenting the Culpeper County Library, where she was well known and loved. For a few years, she also served as a Registrar at Culpeper Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by her children, Dean Moberley, Terry Moberley (Shari), and Karen Hensley (Frank Hensley, Jr.); her grandchildren, Dean E. Moberley, Jr. (Angela), Brian Moberley (Lauren), Rachel Schultz (Jake), Daniel Moberley, Jason Moberley (Vicki), Nathan Moberley (Kristin), Andrew Moberley (Bethany), Katherine Doerr (Chris), Allison Hensley, Will Hensley, Lora Moberley, and Robert Moberley; 18 beloved great-grandchildren; and her sister, Rita Stripling (James).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jack Satcher, Vergie Lou Jenny Smith, James L. Satcher, and Martha Faye Windham.
Carlene's legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply. She will be remembered for her caring heart, her devotion to her children and grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched with her love and compassion.
A graveside service will be held on July 12, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Etlan Cemetery, 230 Church Hill Road, Etlan, VA 22719, with Pastor Tom Smith officiating.
