Bryce Ray Breckenridge's Obituary
Death can be so inconvenient. You try to live and love. It comes and interrupts . . . She still had things to say . . .” from Sara Groves’ “What Do I Know.” We still had things to say to precious Bryce – Bryce Ray Breckenridge, born on the third day of December, 1996, and ushered to Heaven on the wings of angels as he was doing what he loved doing, riding motocross with some of his best friends, on the second day of December, 2023, the day before his twenty-seventh birthday.
Bryce loved the Lord in a quiet, beautiful, confident way and his favorite book of the Bible was Revelation. “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on His throne.” Revelation 3:20-22 NIV
Those who knew Bryce witnessed his love of life and his means of celebrating through the adventure sports of mountain biking, motocross, snowboarding, backcountry overlanding and mountaineering, water skiing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, split-boarding, sailing, surfing, and wood-working/building.
For Bryce, the perfect beginning to a day of enjoying the outdoors was to rise early to catch the sunrise, and following a day of work, Bryce loved to find a mountain top to watch the sunset while enjoying a fire, often Facetiming so his mother could bear witness, before descending the mountain top in search of pizza.
Bryce loved his name and claimed the following Bible verse, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.” Isaiah 43:1-2 NIV
Bryce’s family draws comfort as the winter season is upon us, in envisioning Bryce looking down from the biggest mountain top – one with just the right amount of snow, beginning the descent on his snowboard – with Jesus cheering him on. Knowing he had the perfect run, and that the next day – or in Heaven’s time, the next adventure, will likely be paddleboarding around Heaven’s replica of Canandaigua Lake, we that remain on this earth will continue to serve where we can and will celebrate that Bryce is now living the best life!
Bryce was a very private person and never wanted to be the center of attention; respecting this, the burial service will be private, with plans for a celebration of Bryce’s life to be shared as the family comes to terms with this huge loss of life, joy, and beauty.
