Brooks Montgomery Cooper's Obituary
Brooks Montgomery Cooper, 81, passed away in Madison, VA, on July 2, 2026.
Brooks and his siblings were born in the Fiji Islands, where his father was stationed during the war. His father was then stationed in West Africa, where he lived until the family moved to Madison, WI, in 1953 and then to the DC area in 1956. He resided in Bethesda, MD, Herndon, VA, and Sperryville, VA.
He graduated from BCC High School in Bethesda, MD, where he excelled in the sports of wrestling and football. After graduation, he joined the USPS, where he spent his thirty-seven-year career as a hard-working letter carrier.
He was a forever car enthusiast focusing on his passion for restoring vintage Corvettes. In his later years, he was also very active with fostering cats and had several of his own, which he loved dearly.
After a long battle with Parkinson's, he passed peacefully in Madison, VA, with his twin sister, Elspeth, by his side.
Brooks is survived by Elspeth Montgomery Cooper (twin sister), Kelly Anne Gillen (daughter), Richard Joseph Gillen, Jr. (former son-in-law), Jason Brooks Gillen (grandson), and Paige Louise Gillen (Jason’s wife).
He was preceded in death by Cary Montgomery Cooper (brother).
