Brian Turner Murray's Obituary
Brian Murray passed away on March 6, 2026 at his home in Spotsylvania, VA.
Brian was born on November 8, 1956 to the late W. Gordon Murray and Louise T. Murray of Arlington, VA.
Brian was always known as someone with a kind heart and quick wit. Growing up in a sports family with three older brothers, he was an incredible athlete in his own right and excelled at an early age as a left-handed pitcher. His love for sports extended far beyond playing — he found great joy in coaching his son's baseball and basketball teams, and spending family time watching all forms of Washington D.C. sports. After earning a Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech, he also developed a lifelong passion for Hokie sports that never faded.
Brian had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures and was always up for a challenge — whether that meant playing a round on the golf course, participating in a competitive game of Catch Phrase, or tackling an escape room. A quick stint in Texas sparked a lifelong love for Americana music and the cowboy lifestyle, influences that stayed with him through the years.
Brian is survived by his children, Carolyn (Ernie) and Sean (Téa); his granddaughter, Reese; his brothers, Bill, Greg (Cheryl), and Larry (Christy); as well as his niece and nephews.
Above all, Brian will be remembered as being a wonderful father, a great friend, and someone who was always willing to lend an ear and provide advice. He was a big proponent of doing what makes you happy and being your best self.
Brian’s legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the lives he touched.
