Boyd Wheland Long's Obituary
Boyd Wheland Long, 75, of Spotsylvania County passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Mary Washington Hospital.
He was a lifetime member of Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, the first elected Captain of Spotsylvania Fire Company 8 in Thornburg and the owner of a local fire protection company since 1989.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and James Long, Sr. of Burr Hill, his brothers James Long Jr. and Donnie Long of Burr Hill and his wife, Sharon Long of Spotsylvania. He is survived by his 5 children, Boyd Long, Jr., Robert Long, Lisa Burris and James, John and Michael Snead; his brothers Billy, Wayne, Frank and Mark; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Found and Sons, Fredericksburg Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Found and Sons, Fredericksburg Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
