Billy Dean Wylie's Obituary
Billy “Bill” Dean Wylie, 79, of Mineral, VA, passed away in his home on Friday, March 9, 2018 with his wife by his side.
He was born on July 25, 1938 in Gaffney, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Ralph E. Wylie, Sr., and Ella Katherine Sullivan Wylie, and the brother of the late James Wylie, Bennie Wylie, Ralph E. Wylie, Jr., Mickey Wylie, Charles Wylie, and Bell Wylie Wyatt.
Bill is survived by his wife of 23 years, Pat Wylie; six daughters, Barbara Wylie Mobley (Joel) of Gaffney, SC, Cheryl Wylie Hampton of Gaffney, SC, Debra Wylie of Marathon, FL, Pamela Wylie Edwards (Kevin) of Blacksburg, SC, Chrissy Abney (Larry) of Colonial Beach, VA, and Tracey Kost-Brady (Steve) of Newburg, MD; 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He served in the U.S. Army and did three tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in July 1955.
In January 2001, after working more than 25 years as a carpenter, he retired from the Carpenter’s Local Union 177.
During his retirement, he spent his time traveling with his wife, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at Angela’s Italian Restaurant, located at 6336 Jefferson Davis Highway, Spotsylvania, VA 22551. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
