Billy Junior Elkins' Obituary
Billy Junior Elkins, loving husband and father, passed away in his home, at the age of 81, on Sunday, July 29, 2012 in Culpeper, VA.
Billy was born on June 22, 1931 in Warrenton, VA to the late James Henry Elkins and Alice Sarah Kerns Elkins. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served three years in Alaska in the engineering department. Billy worked at Culpeper Farmers co-op where he retired after 30 years as a fertilizer truck driver. He was a skilled carpenter and brick layer, which he loved. He worked part time for many years at Baby Jim’s Snack Bar. Billy was an avid lover of country music which he enjoyed playing on his guitar and singing along with his wife. He was a diehard Redskins fan and enjoyed the outdoors. He was a family man who loved spending time with his wife, kids and grandchildren. He never met a stranger and was loved by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Geraldine Gibbs Elkins. Four children, Larry Elkins and his wife, Linda of Gordonsville, Steve Elkins of Culpeper, Teresa Elkins Hitt of Culpeper and Lisa Elkins Settle of Culpeper. Love of his life, grandchildren, who were raised in his home, Garry Elkins and Chrissy Elkins Corbin of Culpeper, along with five additional grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, five nieces, two nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, James H. Elkins and Joseph B. Elkins, his sisters, Frances Street and Betty Snow, his granddaughter, Leona Settle and special son-in-law, Allen M. Hitt.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 2, 2012 from 6 to 8 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 2 pm at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Sandy Martin officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Elkins, Garry Elkins, Joseph Corbin, Wayne Baker, Kenneth Stringfellow and David Elkins.
Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper is handling the arrangements.
