Beverly Ann Sheldon's Obituary
Beverly Ann Moe Sheldon of Spotsylvania County died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the Dove House in Westminster, Md., after a long illness.
Beverly was born on July 24, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minn., and was the daughter of the late Gustave and Elfreda Nelson Moe. She grew up in Arlington. Beverly had an older brother, the late Warren Moe, and an older half brother, the late Kenneth Moe.
Beverly graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., and graduated from American University in Washington, D.C., with a degree in music. She moved with her family to Wisconsin in 1962. While living in Wisconsin, Beverly worked as an office assistant in the insurance industry. After moving to Virginia in 1986, Beverly worked for the county of Spotsylvania for many years.
Always involved in the church, as a young adult, she was the director of the cherub choir at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Arlington, the youth choir director at Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls, Wis., and a member of the choir at Christ Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg.
She was also a member of Sweet Adelines Chorus. Beverly was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, with membership in chapters in both Wisconsin and Virginia. Once settled in Fredericksburg, she became an active member of the Spotsylvania County Woman's Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's activities and doing handcrafts. She loved jewelry, traveling, the beach (namely Nags Head, N.C.) and Christmas.
Beverly was married to Howard Lee Sheldon for 56 years, until his death in 2008.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Nancy Sheldon of Fredericksburg and Curtis and Cathy Sheldon of Fairfax Station; daughter and son-in-law, Lexi and David Schafer of Westminster, Md.; and grandchildren Jacob and Zachary Sheldon and Kimberly Sheldon and Creason and Chamberlyn Schafer. In addition, Beverly is survived by nieces Christine Lane of Overland Park, Kan., Carol Locke of Chattanooga, Tenn., Linnea Ash of Richmond, Kathleen McKinney of Clackamas, Ore., Georgean Mettler of Circle Pines, Minn., and Sue Lynn Doering and Nancy Moll, both of Clearwater, Minn.; and two nephews, Warren Moe Jr. of Oregon and Brad Tesmer of Clear Lake, Minn.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, with an Order of The Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Christ Lutheran Church, 1300 Augustine Ave., Fredericksburg, VA 22401, with her pastor, the Rev. Richard Carbaugh, and intern Katharina Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg.
