Betty Jane Settle's Obituary
Betty Jane Settle, 69, of Culpeper went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at her residence. Betty was born to Jacob and Jessie Newlin on September 2, 1937.
She was one of eight children born to this union of which she was the third to the eldest. Betty was a devoted mother and wife. She was employed with Culpeper County School Board of Transportation for twenty three years until her retirement in 2000. She cared for her husband devotedly through his illness until he departed life to be with the Lord in October of 2003. God called Betty to be with her husband, James Edward Settle after a short illness.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Elizabeth Jane Carpenter and her husband, Kevin of Rustburg, Melanie Roxann Rosson and her husband, Larry, and Billie Jo Settle all of Culpeper, one son, William Wilson of Winchester, and one granddaughter, Angela Ruth Dawn Bradley of Luray.
Betty also leaves behind a very devoted sister, Patsy Cross, and her friend Henry Smallwood for all of their care giving through her time of illness. She also leaves behind two brothers, Thomas and Roy Newlin, a sister, Barbara Hurst, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and faithful friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, two brothers, William and Robert Newlin, and one sister, Bessie Nester.
With very special thanks to her niece, Melody Dawn Colvin and her husband, James, great niece, Kaylyn Morgan Colvin for all their care giving throughout her illness. Also with very special thanks to June Robinson and family for their support and spiritual guidance they brought to our home through her illness.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 24, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Dodson and Rev. Howard Butler, Sr. officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be James W. Colvin, Jr., Henry Smallwood, Ronald Payton, Roderick Williams, Christopher Panther, and Jimmy Panther. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Thompson and James Colvin.
