Bessie Gertrude Roath's Obituary
Bessie Gertrude Roath, 98, of Fredericksburg passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Carriage Hill Nursing Home.
Bessie was born in Marysville, Mo., and moved with her family to Tulelake, Calif., in 1940. She lived there for 54 years before moving to Virginia to be near her son.
Bessie was a member of the Eastern Star. She worked for the telephone company and as a librarian for many years. But most of all, she was the best mom a child could want.
Bessie is survived by her son, Larry D. Roath and his wife, Peggy, of Fredericksburg; brother Robert Saunders and his wife, Judith, of California; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo W. Roath; her parents, Emma and Elbert Saunders; brother Orris Saunders; and sister Edna McAlister.
A memorial service will be held for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Bessie's family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations in her name to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.
