Bessie Lee Aylor-Arthur's Obituary
Bessie Lee Aylor-Arthur, 91, of Stanardsville, died Monday, September 18, 2023 at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene County. She was born July 18, 1932 in Alum Springs to the late Paul and Lorena Woodard.
Bessie retired as a secretary from the EPA. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Boston, VA. In the early days, she served as a secretary and helped create church bulletins and fold them. Additionally, she was a member of the choir and head of the prayer chain. Bessie was considered a walking dictionary and could spell anything. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her dogs.
Bessie is survived by her husband, Paul Stuart Arthur; and one nephew, Bob Woodard.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Aylor; and one sister, Mildred Woodard Gore.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A graveside service will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Steve Harrelson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made in Bessie’s honor to the DAWGS children group at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, 6131 Sperryville Pike, Boston, VA 22713.
