Beryl Kincheloe Mathers' Obituary
Beryl Kincheloe Mathers, 96 passed away at 7:30 AM Saturday December 17, 2011 in Macomb, Illinois at The Elms nursing home. She was born in Crewe, Virginia, July 11, 1915 to Clarence Kincheloe and Mary (Roberts) Kincheloe. She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow Clay Mathers and two sisters Carrie Thomas Malloy and Margaret Kincheloe Waple.
She married Woodrow Clay Mathers August 1, 1934. He passed away August 27, 2001. They happily shared a 67 year marriage and had two sons: Warren who lives in Arlington, Virginia and Richard (Jan) in Macomb, Illinois. Five grandchildren; Shawn (Mathers) Bohn and Andrea Mathers both of Sterling, Virginia, Suzanne (Mathers) Fuhr of Macomb, Illinois, Scott Mathers of Starkville, Mississippi, and Sara Mathers of Chicago Illinois; seven great grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild survive.
She was a homemaker, loved cooking, playing the piano, traveling and fishing. After her husband’s retirement they moved to a Rappahannock River fishing community, in Topping, Virginia and for almost thirty years she and her husband enjoyed fishing and entertaining relatives and friends who came to fish and eat. Two large chest freezers and two refrigerators were needed to hold all the seafood; and all who came left with cooler chests full of seafood. She was also active in the Lower Methodist Church at Hartfield and the local Community Center.
She moved to Illinois in 2004 near her son and lived at Wesley Village and GrandPrairie Assisted Living before moving to the Elms in 2009. She took trips back to Virginia to visit relatives and life long friends. She also enjoyed living near her great grandsons John and Jacob Fuhr and watching them grow up. The family thanks the staff of the Elms for it’s kind and tender care.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Elms Nursing Home Activity Fund, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry (care of 1st Presbyterian Church of Macomb), or the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 10:00 AM till 11:30 AM with funeral services to follow at 11:30 AM at Found and Sons Lee Funeral Chapel, 8521 Sudley Road, Manassas, VA 20109.
Burial will be in the historic St. John's Episcopal Church cemetery in Centreville, Virginia.
