Bernice "Bonnie" Marie Smith's Obituary
Bernice "Bonnie" Marie Smith, a fiercely independent spirit with a heart full of love and laughter, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born on January 18, 1949, Bonnie lived life with grit, heart, and a little bit of mischief. She was a devoted mother, a loyal friend, and a woman who never sat still for long. Whether she was “running the roads,” heading off on a spontaneous trip, or sitting at her favorite slot machine with a grin and a glint in her beautiful blue eyes, Bonnie embraced every moment to the fullest.
She loved to gamble — BINGO, casinos, scratch-offs — if there was a game of chance, Bonnie was in. Her competitive streak was matched only by her sharp wit and stubborn strength, qualities that made her unforgettable to all who knew her.
Bonnie also had a soft side — especially when it came to her beloved dog, Romeo, her constant companion and loyal friend. She had a deep love for her children and family, always putting them first in her own unique, strong-willed way. Her love may have come with a tough exterior, but underneath was a woman with a big heart who would do anything for the people she cared about.
Those lucky enough to know Bonnie knew they’d met someone one-of-a-kind — a woman who lived life on her own terms, never backed down from a challenge, and always found a way to enjoy the ride.
Bonnie is survived by her loving children, Nancy Perrie and her fiancee, Joseph Saffelle, Zelda Sullivan, and Claude Baker and his wife, Joyce; sister, Theresa Dippery; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew who will miss her dearly but carry her stories and spirit with them forever.
In Bonnie’s honor, take a road trip, play a few slots, or simply hold your loved ones close — just the way she would’ve wanted.
Bonnie’s loved ones will receive family and friends for a celebration of life on Monday, October 20, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg.
