Bernard "Bernie" Hoskins' Obituary
Bernard “Bernie” Hoskins, 70, died Monday, November 19, 2012 at his residence in Culpeper, after a long battle with congestive heart disease. He was born August 17, 1942 in Fredericksburg to the late George Franklin and Annie Mae Fallin Hoskins.
Bernie is survived by the love of his life, Faye Burke Hoskins, his wife of 39 years whom he met skating, and his children: Dwayne Ashby Hoskins and wife Becky of Fredericksburg; Christopher Allen Hoskins also of Fredericksburg; and Suzanne Hoskins Stead and husband Patrick of Culpeper.
Other survivors include his four grandchildren: Calvin Ray Hoskins of Lynchburg, Daniel Wilson Hoskins and wife, Sierra of Fredericksburg, Austin Joseph Stead of Culpeper and Jessica Mattice Baker and husband Joe of Fayetteville, NC; his four siblings: John Franklin Hoskins and wife Peggy Lou of Fredericksburg, Peggy Hoskins Brown and husband Kenny Brown of Gordonsville, Thomas Wayne Hoskins of Fredericksburg and Joyce Hoskins McLaughlin of Gordonsville; 2 nieces and 10 nephews. In addition, a sister-in-law, Patricia B. Butler of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and her daughters, Carolyn, Angie and Tammy, who adored him and always held a special place in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, Edward Lee Hoskins, and two brothers-in-law: Samuel W. Butler and Ernie McLaughlin.
Bernie accepted Christ as a teenager and attended Sylvania Heights Baptist Church of Fredericksburg. After his marriage to Faye in 1973, he joined her church family and became a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Boston, VA. He enjoyed going to church and being with fellow Christians until his health prohibited him from attending.
Bernie liked NASCAR, motorcycles and nice automobiles. He turned his love of driving into a 40+ year career as a truck driver, traveling up and down the east coast and as far west as Texas. He loved trips to the Outer Banks and anywhere else that family could be together. Bernie was a dedicated husband, son, brother, uncle, father and grandfather, always putting family first and always there for anyone that ever needed him. It only took someone to express a need for his selfless generosity to take over.
Bernie has always opened his heart and home as a gathering place that draws family and their friends to spend time together. He especially enjoyed having a house full of joy and laughter. In recent years, he loved to watch his grandson Austin pitch and cherished times sitting with family watching his baseball games.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11 am at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper with Pastor Dallas Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
