Benjamin R. Jenkins Sr.'s Obituary
Benjamin Randolph Jenkins, Sr., 86, of Culpeper died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Culpeper Regional Hospital. He was born October 14, 1923 in Rappahannock, VA to the late James Benjamin and Lucy Kennedy Jenkins.
Mr. Jenkins was a veteran of the US Army and US Navy serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Rochester, Corp. after 15 years and later becoming a Correctional Officer for the VA Department of Corrections retiring after 20 years. He was an active and faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church until his failing health. He enjoyed dancing and singing bluegrass and gospel music. He was a loving family man who was very proud of his wife and home, a man who loved life, loved food, was personable, friendly and loved by all he knew.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nellie Elizabeth Jenkins, three children, Benjamin “Randy” Jenkins, Jr. and his wife, Nancy Lee of Ruckersville, VA, Patricia Elizabeth Fitch and her husband, Chuck of Mechanicsville, MD and Diane Frances Wynham and her husband, Stuart of Madison, VA.
Additional survivors include six siblings, Virginia Jenkins, Sarah Smoot, Ruth Geil, Lois Short, Mary Early and Jane Elkins, three grandchildren, Christopher Jenkins, Declan Wynham and his wife and Mr. Jenkins’ caregiver, Krystle, and Garrett Wynham and his wife, Ashley, and three great grandchildren, Braxton, Maddox and Jude Wynham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jessie Jarrell.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, Va.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Meisberger and Rev. Kenneth Huneycutt officiating.
Interment will follow Culpeper National Cemetery (New) with military honors provided by Culpeper American Legion Post # 330 and V.F.W. Post # 2524.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Bethel Baptist Church, 6262 Hoover Rd., Reva, VA 22735.
