Ben Lee Shealy's Obituary
Ben Lee Shealy, 65, of Hebron Valley, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on October 29, 2023, after a lengthy illness. Born on March 13, 1958, in Salt Lake City, Mr. Shealy graduated from San Jose State University in 1981. He later received a MBA degree from Columbia University. Mr. Shealy spent the first twenty years of his career in New York City and Boston working in investment banking. He moved to Madison, Virginia, in 2002 and continued his career in Charlottesville in corporate finance and business consulting.
Mr. Shealy is survived by his wife, Anne Wingate Shealy, and his six children, Miles, Genevieve, Ezra, Margaret, Elsa, and Caroline Shealy, all of Hebron Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents Mildred and Miles Jefferson Shealy and also by a brother Dave Shealy. A sister, Cheryl Ann, of San Jose survives him.
Mr. Shealy was an avid reader and had a wide range of interests, from violin playing to orchard management to sailing. In both the early part of his career in San Francisco, New York, and Boston and in the later years spent in rural Madison, he enjoyed nothing so much as hosting friends with dinner, drink and lively conversation.
Mr. Shealy was a devout Christian and a longtime member of St Peter Catholic parish in little Washington.
A wake will be held at the family home in Hebron Valley beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 12762 Lee Hwy, Washington, VA 22747 with Father Kevin Beres officiating. Interment will follow immediately.
