Rev. Barry Neil Van Pelt's Obituary
Rev. Barry Neil Van Pelt, 75, of Richardsville, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. He was born November 23, 1948 in Staunton, VA to the Late Eileen and Boyd Van Pelt, Jr.
Barry graduated from Washington Bible College and Capital Bible Seminary. He was the current pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Madison, where he has been since 1997. Previously he pastored at Staightstone Baptist Church in Long Island, VA, Cheriton Baptist Church in Cheriton, VA, and Blue Run Baptist Church in Somerset, VA.
He is survived by one son, Jermey Van Pelt (Jinli); two daughters, Catherine Van Pelt and Christie El-Nemr (Khaled); six grandchildren, Daniel Van Pelt, James Walid El-Nemr, Phoebe Leen El-Nemr, Yanni Walid El-Nemr, Penelope Leen El-Nemr, and Piper Leen El-Nemr; and two siblings, Boyd Van Pelt, III (Susan) and Paige Stevens.
In addition to his parents, Barry is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Martha Frances Van Pelt; one son, Dr. Neil Van Pelt; and one brother-in-law, Craig Stevens.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Richardsville United Methodist Church, 29235 Richards Ferry Rd, Richardsville, VA 22736 with Pastor Mike Evans officiating.
