Barbara Lee Tharp's Obituary
Barbara Lee Tharp, 84, of Culpeper, VA passed away peacefully at UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center on Friday, January 10, 2025, with her family surrounding her. Barbara was born to the late Owen Cubbage and Catherine Frazier Cubbage on April 25, 1940, in Rappahannock County, VA.
Barbara loved to cook and bake for many years. Her specialty was cakes. She made many wedding cakes throughout the years for people. Barbara babysat so many children, so many that we cannot count. Every child was loved and treated like family. Two of them, Stephanie Olinger and Melissa Leake, still share their life with her.
She was a member of Black Oak Regular Baptist Church for over 70 years where she also served as the Treasurer for more than 50 years.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harvey Peyton Tharp; her son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Beverly Tharp; her daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and T.W. Miller; grandchildren, Jesse and Bethany McClanahan, MacKenzie Miller, Brady Miller, Brandon and Rachel Settle, and Kenny Settle Jr.; great-grandchildren, Chad, Collin, and Cadence McClanahan, Leighton and Holden, and Kara Jo Settle; and a great-great-grandchild on the way; siblings, Joan Embrey (Richard), Kay Boutchyard (Bobby), Terry Cubbage (Hazel), Larry Cubbage (Doris); sister in law, Darlene Hough; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry and Ronnie Cubbage.
Her legacy of love and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 16, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel with Quintin Parlett officiating.
Interment will follow at Black Oak Regular Baptist Church Cemetery, 10532 Eggbornsville Road, Rixeyville, VA 22737. For those attending the graveside, carpooling is requested if possible due to limited parking.
Pallbearers serving the family are her grandsons, Jesse, Brady, Brandon, and Kenny; her great-grandsons, Chad, and Collin; and the Men of the Church, John Dodson, Allen Bretzin, Bob Kondratenko, and Kyle Printz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to Black Oak Regular Baptist Church at 426 Jenkins Ave., Culpeper, VA 22701.
